Lesson Plans

Three school lesson plans with handouts are provided to teach school-aged children, grades 4-8, about the basics of vision; how we see, how the visual system works including optical illusions and eye safety tips.  From optics of the eye to the vision centers of the brain, everyone will have fun learning the basics of the visual system!  These lesson plans are brought to you by the National Eye Institute - National institutes of Health (NEI-NIH).

A School Program for Grades 4-8

Teach the basics of VISION with a 16-page teaching guide from the National Eye Institute. This unique science program is designed to get scientists and eye care professionals into the classroom -- working with students and teachers in their own communities. VISION's lesson plans and handouts will help you lead students in lively, interactive sessions on how the eye works, eye problems, and eye safety. The Program is intended for use in the classroom by teachers and/or guest speakers.

This program was developed in cooperation with the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology.
